Major redevelopment works have been announced for the Mina Zayed area of Abu Dhabi.
The old port and surrounding area is set for redevelopment to transform the area into a new tourist, commercial and residential destination.
As part of plans, unused and out of use stores and outlets have been demolished and the Meena Plaza towers are set for demolition on November 27.
A new fish market has been designed with construction already underway, and the plant souk and fruit and vegetable markets will also be a major part of the redevelopment.
Aldar Properties will play an active role in the regeneration project, developing prime land plots in Mina Zayed as a sea front destination.
Once completed the destination will transform into a vibrant cultural hub, tourism spot with markets and shops.
"Mina Zayed, which has witnessed the incredible growth of the capital over the past few decades, resonates in the hearts of Abu Dhabi’s residents,” said Hamad Al-Mutawa, executive director of Operations Affairs at the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
"We are confident that the redevelopment of Mina Zayed will further drive the social and economic progress of the emirate and will play an important role in achieving our wise leadership’s vision of cementing Abu Dhabi’s position as one of the best cities in the world.”
