The Tourism Sector is dedicated to drive the evolution of Abu Dhabi into a world-class destination of distinction through conserving, promoting and leveraging Abu Dhabi’s heritage, culture and leisure assets.

In 2017, a record number of people stayed in our 162 hotels and hotel apartments during the year, with 4,875 million visitors checking in; an impressive 9.8 % year-on-year rise. Either located  at the vibrant heart of Abu Dhabi, by the sea front or surrounded by the desert dunes, the hotels in Abu Dhabi offers a large variety of experience to both tourist and business travelers.

The Department of Culture and Tourism aims for 7.6 million visitors and 6.9 million hotel guests by 2020. This is expected to feed around 10,718 upcoming hotel rooms by 2020.

In 2017, the Abu Dhabi International Airport saw 23.4 million passengers move through its doors. The airport had eighty operating airlines connecting the world to Abu Dhabi, giving foreign visitors numerous travel options. According to the Airport Industry Connectivity Report 2017 published by Airports Council International (ACI), the  Abu Dhabi International Airport has been rated the fastest growing airport in hub connectivity in the world during the last decade

Connecting Abu Dhabi to the world

Etihad Airways alone offered direct flights from more than 100 cities around the world to Abu Dhabi.

Transit Visa for all nationalities travelling through Abu Dhabi International Airport  

As of May 2017, it is possible to issue four-day (or ninety-six-hour) transit visas for people of all nationalities travelling through Abu Dhabi International Airport. The launch of the new visa service is part of the ‘Life in Abu Dhabi’ initiative by the Abu Dhabi Government and is aimed at showcasing the destination to stopover visitors, as well as encouraging future visits by travelers through offering a ‘taste of Abu Dhabi’ via short-stop transit tours.
