While the petrochemical sector has historically dominated economic development, a growing diversification in the Emirate’s economy has been evident in recent years as Abu Dhabi drives for a more sustainable and diversified economy as formulated in its Economic Vision 2030. The Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 aims to reduce the oil and gas sector’s contribution to the GDP from 59 percent in 2005 to 36 percent by 2030. The main objectives of the 2030 Vision are to further diversify the economy, create business opportunities in other expanding sectors, expand the Emirate’s infrastructure and transport network, improve environmental sustainability. and optimize government operations while developing its social and human resource. The implementation of Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030 aims to create numerous opportunities for local and international investors in many sectors.

Foreign investment is a major contributor to Abu Dhabi Emirate economic growth and development. The total Stock of Foreign Direct Investment growth reached AED 108 billion at the end of 2017.
